Genesis 2

Genesis-02

Lesson 2

This topic is not good to the enemies of God. To understand why there are a lot of sufferings in this world. Have you often wondered if God is good, why is there so much suffering in this world? If God is a good God why are some children born with birth defects? Do some wives suffer from the brutality of their husbands?

You will understand what is going on in this world unless we all go back to the fundamentals. We need to go back to the Bible to see what is happening.

God is a wonderful God. Look at his provision in

Genesis 2:8 –God blessed us in a beautiful place. He planted a garden for us

Genesis 2:9 – Every tree that is pleasing to the sight of God

What kind of God do we have? He is good!

Genesis 2:15 - Background of our study

Genesis 2:16 – What is the command?

He gave them the permission to eat except.

Genesis 2:17 – What is sin based on this verse?

Sin is disobedience. Sin is anything contrary to the expressed will of God. God gives us everything good except he says this is my guidelines.

God gave instruction once to man.

Man – you are responsible of your family

Genesis 2:18 – Goodness of God when he saw Adam was alone.

How many times did you find the word "good"?

Genesis 1:31 – very good

Genesis 2:18 – He wanted man to be happy.

He invented the first family.

Now why do we have suffering? If God designed intimacy, happiness, why is there suffering?

Genesis 3:1 – Serpent – who is this?

Reality of Satan

Revelation 12:9 – who is the serpent. What are the names of Satan?

Serpent of Old

Great Dragon

Divider – “diabolos” means divider

Satan – the deceiver of the world

Satan is not alone – with his angels.

What is the origin of Satan?

Military training – we must know our enemy!

Christians are wiped out at home because they do not know their enemy.

What can we learn from the Bible about Satan?

  1. Satan is a created being.

He was created perfect.

Colossians 1:16 – all things, includes angelic and spiritual beings.

If God is a good God, how did Satan appear in Genesis 3:1?

When God placed man in the garden, we are introduced to a character – Satan

Between chapter 2 and 3 something happened. We don to know how long this took.

Ezekiel 28:12-13 - Superficially. This verse talks about he king of Tyre but upon closer

Scrutiny we see that these verses are talking about Satan.

You were in the garden.

Outline

  1. Satan was created Perfect
  2. Satan was privileged – Ezekiel 28:13
  3. Satan had leadership position (exalted position) – Ezekiel 28:14
  4. God created angelic beings perfect.

Ezekiel 28:17 - your heart was lifted up because of your beauty

Isaiah 14 – superficially talking about the King of Babylon

Isaiah 14:12 – Star of the morning

Lucifer form Luci – meaning light

I will

I will

I will

I will

I will

Spirit of Satan - I will versus God’s will

God could have created angelic beings and made them like robots.

Look at your life and see your Spirit. "I will"

Habit of exalting ourselves? That is Spirit of the Enemy

What destroyed Satan? Pride

Titles of Satan found in the Bible

  1. Great Dragon – Revelation 12:9
  2. Deceiver – Revelation 12:9
  3. Accuser of the Brethren – Revelation 12:10

Accuse? If you have confessed, and then you are feeling unworthy, Satan is giving you false guilt

Revelation 12:12 – Jesus overcame Lucifer through his blood. The devil knows his time is

short, so he works overtime.

  1. God of this World – 2 Corinthians 4:4 – Blinded the eyes of the unbelieving

Need to pray for people that their eyes would be opened because Satan blinds them

  1. Angel of Light – 2 Corinthians 11:14
  2. Roaring Lion - 1 Peter 5:8 –
  3. Prince of the Power of Area –Ephesians 2:2, 6-11 – Problem is not people but Satan

There are demonic strongholds because the enemy is real.

Genesis 3 – Satan uses people

Genesis 3:1 – Serpent, was craftier. Satan’s strategy, schemer

What did he tell Mrs. Adam? Has God really? He now attacks the character of God.

Insinuates God is selfish, insecure, hiding something from you, preventing you from experiencing the fullness of life.

Genesis 3:5 – Satan’s false promises

Many people think that if I do it my way, I will be happy. If I do it God’s way he will be sad.

Genesis 3:5 – your eyes will be opened. Were their eyes opened? Of course. You will be like God. What is God’s plan? He wants us to be like him, because we were created in his image. Satan’s way is different. You will be like God. Let us look at our lives and the temptation to be God. A lot of God’s people don’t believe that God has their best interest at heart. Deep down in their heart, they are not convinced that God is good and wants the best for you. We are stubborn. If you doubt the character of God, that is Satan’s temptation. Satan is a liar, did Satan tell them what would happen to them?

What is the benefit of knowing good and evil? Know – experiential – experience good and evil.

Example of our children: I tell them there are certain things that you must not experience until the right time. Sexual intimacy. Does God want us to enjoy sex? Of course

Genesis 3:6 – Was Eve stupid? No.! What can you learn about the temptation of Eve?

Her perception was delightful good. Why didn’t Eve focus on the other trees in the garden? Why did she focus on the forbidden tree?

Satan’s strategy is always to make you focus on what you do not have instead of enjoying what you have from God. God wants to bless us in his time.

In her own judgment she thought this was best for her.

According to all that you have discussed, what is sin? Sin is following our way versus God’s way. When you seriously think your way is better than God’s way that comes from whom? Satan!

What kind of thoughts comes from Satan?

What happened when they committed the sin? Both their eyes were open.

The first thing we learn from sin is there is immediate gratification.

Immediately they experienced happiness – their eyes were opened.

After that what happened? What were the consequences?

Genesis 3:8 – they hid. Why? Once you experience intimacy with God, you don’t want to experience separation/fellowship broken. Sin makes you distant from God.

Genesis 3:9 – What is the heart of God? Did God know where they were?

He takes the initiative. He takes the first step. All the time. When you have done something wrong, God takes the first step. This time God asks us where are you? How are you doing spiritually? Are you walking with God or are you hiding?

Make a decision to follow God.

Summarize: Who is our enemy? Satan! Strategy is to deceive, cast doubt. His goal is to stop us from experiencing the fullness of life to enjoy Satan’s purpose? To cause people to turn away from God. He asks where are you spiritually? Come to God and he will let you experience his presence, forgiveness and fullness. When you are in sin, don’t blame people. Look to God. Lord, here I am. I acknowledge my tendency to be the king of my life.

Why do we need to study the Book of Genesis

Genesis-01

THE BOOK OF GENESIS

Lesson 1

Jeremiah 9:23-24 The LORD says, "The wise should not boast of their wisdom, nor the

strong of their strength, nor the rich of their wealth. If any want to boast, they should

boast that they know and understand me, because my love is constant, and I do what is

just and right. These are the things that please me. I, the LORD, have spoken."

– What does the bible warn us about?

What do most people brag about in this world?

    • Wisdom - Because of people’s education and knowledge, they become dependent on their wisdom, but God says you are not to depend or brag about that.
    • Might – connections, political powers cause us to become proud and self-sufficient.
    • Wealth – we think our bank accounts can become our security.

What is God telling us? If we must pursue something, what must we pursue?

Jer 9:23-24 – None of the above will be worth boasting of except "knowing and

understanding God"

How many know President George Bush? We may "know about" President Bush but you may not "know him personally". We know about God but how many of us really know Him personally.

Know – experiential knowledge – intimacy.

The secret of the Christian life is understanding? When can we do this? When we know God.

What is the difference between understanding and knowing God?

Do you understand the ways of God? Do you know why he does certain things? Do you understand the concerns of the heart of God? You cannot understand until you know him intimately and we cannot know him unless we go back to the Bible.

Genesis is a book of beginnings, it tells of the creation, and of origins, in particular of the Hebrew people

Genesis Outline

Genesis 1-2 Creation

Genesis 2-5 Adam and Eve

Genesis 6-11 Noah

Genesis 12-25 Abraham

Genesis 25-28 Isaac

Genesis 28-36 Jacob

Genesis 36-50 Joseph

In between chapter’s’ 25:5 – we have the story of Judah

Let me illustrate: in the December 18, 1995 issue of the Time Magazine, we have an article entitled, "How Reliable is the bible?" is the Bible fact or fiction? Seems like the author initially may be attacking the bible but upon closer scrutiny you realize that he is trying to establish the Bible’s credibility.

What Time Magazine says is, from the year 2000 BC up to 300A.D. All the biblical accounts are accurate. Why? Mainly because they have archaeological findings to support it. But on some books, like Exodus, there seems to be no evidence available.

Now we need to understand why we do not have archeological support after the book of Exodus. The people were wandering in the wilderness for 40 years. God disciplined them for their unbelief. Of course, they could not find anything in the desert simply because the Jews built nothing, no temples, buildings, etc.

Although there are other books that cannot be substantiated with archeological support, the absence of any archeological findings does not disprove the bible.

Every time we find something about Bible (Samson, Isaiah, etc.), and just because we do not find something that does not prove that the Bible is incorrect.

Gen 1:1-31 – Are you a creationist or an evolutionist? Or a Christian evolutionist?

A serious student of the Bible will not accept that belief. A choice has to be made

Gen 1:1 – Before there was time, there was God. In the beginning, - space had to be created.

Gen 1:2 – earth was formless and void.

Gen 1:5 - Day 1 – God created light

Day 2 – God created sky

Day 2 – God moved water into 2 parts, over the earth, like a canopy and on the earth. The earth was surrounded by water.

Gen 7:7 – Canopy served as protection. Water acts like a filter. The radiation, ultraviolet rays was prevented from entering the earth, cannot harm people.

This effect produced giant butterflies, dragonflies (3 feet) in the North Pole

Gen 1:6 – Day 3 - land vegetation.

Gen 1:4 – how can the mother (universe, where the earth came from) be younger than the daughter (earth). The sun, moon, and stars were created for a purpose.

Gen 1:13-16 – to give light, God created the sun, moon and stars for us.

Gen 1:16 – greater light and the lesser light

He made it for mankind.

Gen 1:21 – notice the phrase "after their own kind" according to their own kind"

    • Contrary to what evolution teaches that we humans and everything else evolved from something else. We all evolved from a single cell.

Gen 1:26-28 – created man in our own image.

Day 7 – God rested.

To understand the importance of the book of Genesis, what is the importance of the word "geochronology"? Geo – earth, chronology – analysis of time.

I.e. analysis or study of how old the earth is.

All of them are based on the obvious reality that natural processes occurring steadily through time produce cumulative and after measurable results. These studies revealed maximum upper limits for the time these processes have continues. Geochronology is a way to measure how old the earth is and how old mankind is.

There have been 17 approaches but all of these have one principle. All of these are based on the obvious reality that natural processes occurring steadily through time produce cumulative and after measurable results.

Gradualism – it is the evolutionary concept that present strong practices make the mountains and landforms.

For example – Grand Canyon, evolutionists believe it just came into being.

Creationists believe that a large-scale catastrophe happened in the world that caused it.

In the world, there will always be 2 worldviews

  1. evolution
  2. creation

Both are theories as far as science is concerned. A person needs to decide what to believe in. after we look at the facts; we will realize it takes more oafish to believe in evolution than creation.

Let us now go to the example of geologic clocks that are ridiculously true and yet people don’t understand how come they believe in evolution

Interplanetary dust

Every year cosmic dust falls into the heart at a constant rate. We can therefore measure the age of the earth by how much cosmic dust is accumulated. According to evolutionists since the earth is 3-5 billion years old, the cosmic dust on the earth would be hundreds of feet on the planet earth.

Scientists assert we don’t see the hundreds of feet of cosmic dust because it gets blown into the sea by wind and rain. However, in the moon, there are no seas. By computing this, they said the cosmic dust must be at least 54 feet deep to make evolution true.

What happened when man landed on the moon? The cosmic dust reached only a few inches. The scientists were expecting the astronauts to sink into the cosmic dust. but when they stepped on the moon, the cosmic dust was only a few inches deep. This supports the claim that the earth is only a few thousand years old.

Helium clock

Helium is a gas used for balloons. Every year, uranium gives off helium. It is released in the atmosphere. This can also be computed. Based on the computation on the amount of helium on the atmosphere, our earth cannot even be before 6million years old.

The sun is shrinking

It is believed that our sun shrinks 1/10 of 1% per 100 years. Therefore, every 1,000 years, it shrinks 1%. By implication, if the earth is only 100 Million yes, how.

20 million years ago, if the earth is so near the sun, nothing will survive.

Important concept

  1. 1st Law of Thermodynamics

The first law of thermodynamics states that energy is conserved. All existing practices of nature merely change from one form to another. In nature, energy is neither created nor destroyed.

  1. 2nd Law of Thermodynamics

Energy dissipates. As practices in nature occur, the total energy reservoir is reduced to simpler form with a consequence increase in what ______________________.

As energy is used, it becomes less available for further use.

Example: When you spin a top, it will continue to spin for about 20 seconds. When the top loses the strength, the 2nd law of thermodynamics, the law of entropy takes over, the law of thermodynamics. What happens to the top? It is no more predictable. It goes anywhere. Evolution goes against the 2nd law of Thermodynamics.

Evolution says, that as things grow older, they get better. Is this true? As we age do we get better? Or do we decay, old, get worse?

For evolution to work you need to go against many acceptance scientific facts.

The alternative is at stake. The following is just the beginning of what could be listed of the choices one has to make then we accept one side over the other.

Ps 90:1-2 – God is eternal

Ps 33:6,9 - How did creation come about? God simply spoke and it came into being!

Creation - God is the creator

Evolution - spontaneous generation

Whatever view you will adopt will influence how you live.

Evolution says non-life produces life.

Creation says there is a purpose to design.

God says there is a purpose.

Evolution says everything is random, accidental.

Creation shows intricate order.

Example: Plant seed. Up to this day, no scientists can produce seeds that give life. A simple process the seed is so complicated. In one seed, when it is planted roots begin to grow, first, branches, etc, stocking water, blooming flowers. Trees become great oak trees.

We cannot believe that all these are only a result of accidental random.

Evolution says world gets better

Creation shows world is winding down.
